The highs and lows of change

ree

If we are attuned to our surroundings we may start to notice first subtle signs of fall and the change of seasons here in the Colorado Foothills. Crisp mornings, the first tentative clusters of yellow and red leaves and blades of grass. The sun rises a little later, sunsets surprise us at an earlier hour. For some of us there is excitement about cozy autumn and winter afternoons, dimmed lights, candles, warm comfort foods, sipping hot tea curled up under a favorite blanket. For those of us, who love long summer nights, bright and warm afternoons this change of season can also mean some degree of dread and a wanting to hold unto the longer days and warmer temperatures for

as long as possible. On the yoga mat as in life, change is inevitable. Some of it is gradual, slow and we have the chance to adapt over time. Some of it is sudden, unexpected and even disorienting. Yoga allows us to train our mind and nervous system to adapt, pivot, redirect and thus become resilient in the face of change. The practice is subtle, the changes over time are real. Practice on, friends!
